Actor Dan Resin, TV’s Ty-D-Bol man, Dies at 79

Also known for the role of Dr. Beeper in the big-screen comedy Caddyshack.

Dan Resin, an actor best known for the comedy film Caddyshack and for portraying the Ty-D-Bol man in television commercials for the toilet bowl cleaner, died July 31, 2010, in Wayne, New Jersey, from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was 79.

In Caddyshack, Resin played Dr. Beeper, a self-important physician and a member of the country club where the story was set.

As the Ty-D-Bol man, Resin wore a captain’s uniform and sailed off in a motorboat across the sparkling blue waters of a toilet tank after his product pitch: “Helps clean and deodorize your bowl automatically every time you flush.”

He was a resident of Secaucus, N.J., for nearly 50 years before moving to Wayne four years ago.

Born Daniel Wrzesien in South Bend, Indiana, he changed the spelling of his last name when he began his professional acting career.

He studied music and theater at Indiana University and moved to New York following service in the Army at Fort Monmouth.

Resin appeared in the Broadway hits My Fair Lady, Once Upon a Mattress and Don’t Drink the Water, as well as other productions.

He also appeared in hundreds of television commercials for products ranging from the New York Lottery to Bird’s Eye Frozen Vegetables.

Resin was a regular cast member of the TV comedy On Our Own, which aired in 1977, and also appeared in episodes of New York Undercover and Remember WENN.

In his later years, he was active in raising money for Parkinson’s disease research through the annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk in New York City.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, a brother and two sisters.
