From Ed Sullivan’s “Really Big Shew” to Mr. Show, John Moffitt has been directing for 41 years. Since moving to the West Coast, Moffitt has directed many specials and series for all the major networks, including two Primetime Emmys, the first four American Music Awards, as well as two Emmy-nominated series: The Richard Pryor Show and Dick Van Dyke and Company. In 1979, Moffitt-Lee Productions was formed, producing the comedy series Fridays and the 1979 Primetime Emmys. At HBO, Moffitt-Lee produced nine Comic Relief specials and HBO's first series, Not Necessarily the News, among many others. Moffitt has won 14 CableAce Awards and been nominated for 12 Emmys — winning two. He recently earned Emmy nominations for Bill Maher: The Decider and Ricky Gervais: Out of England. Moffitt is treasurer of the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors and is honored to be in the Television Academy Foundation‚s Archive of American Television. Currently, he is the showrunner of a Fox primetime comedy pilot, and preparing to produce and direct a live comedy special for HBO.
