John D. O’Brien
John O’Brien began his career in television in the mid-1970s working as a technical director and video controller at a number of TV stations throughout California. In 1983 he landed a video control job at ABC in Hollywood. He had the opportunity to work on a wide range of programming at the network, some of which include soap operas, sitcoms, game shows, award and variety shows, and sporting events. Since leaving ABC in 1987 to freelance, he has worked on many entertainment shows and series productions. His current projects include The Big Bang Theory (CBS), Big Brother (CBS), and E!’s Live from the Red Carpet award show coverage. O’Brien has received four Primetime Emmys over the years in the team classification of TD/Camera/Video, which includes, The Golden Girls, ER the “Live Episode” and the live broadcast of Fail Safe. O’Brien grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and received a B.A. in broadcast communications arts at San Francisco State University.
Stephen A. Jones
Award-winning camera operator Stephen Jones first joined the Los Angeles television and film production industry after arriving from Orlando’s WFTV in 1979. Starting as a staffer with ABC in Hollywood, Jones acquired a wide range of program production experience, from game shows to daytime dramas, sitcoms to the Olympic Games. In 1987, he left ABC to freelance, concentrating his efforts in sitcoms. Jones has earned five Emmy Awards: three in the Technical Direction/Camera/Video Control for a Series category for episodes of The Golden Girls, one for an episode of Benson and an Emmy for his work with ABC’s coverage of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In addition to previous terms as a governor, Jones serves as chair of the Engineering Awards Committee, which selects the annual Emmy Engineering Awards. He has been an active Academy member since joining in the early 1980s. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Central Florida.
