John C. Moffitt
From Ed Sullivan’s “Really Big Shew” to HBO’s cult comedy series Mr. Show, John Moffitt has been directing for 44 years. Last year Moffitt produced and directed Colin Quinn Long Story Short, for HBO, and was nominated for a 2011 DGA Award for Bill Maher’s special, But I’m Not Wrong, for which he also received a Primetime Emmy nomination. The year before, he earned an Emmy nomination for producing Ricky Gervais: Out of England. Moffitt has produced and directed many specials and series for the major networks, including two Primetime Emmy broadcasts, the first four American Music Awards as well as two Emmy-nominated series, The Richard Pryor Show and Dick Van Dyke and Company. In 1979 Moffitt-Lee Productions was formed, producing the ABC comedy series Fridays. At HBO, Moffitt-Lee produced nine Comic Relief specials and HBO’s first series, Not Necessarily the News, among many others. Moffitt has won 14 CableAces and been nominated for 14 Emmys. Moffitt is a vice chair of the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors and is honored to be in the Television Academy Foundation’s Archive of American Television. Recently he produced a Fox primetime comedy pilot, Inside Jokes, and a pilot, Talking Funny, for HBO.
Lee Miller
Lee Miller has served as producer, director, associate producer and more for a variety of television series, specials, sitcoms and made-for-television movies. His vast credits include such television events as the Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards telecasts; CBS 50th Anniversary; 20 Jerry Lewis MDA telethons; the first Special Olympics opening ceremony; the People’s Choice Awards, Cable Ace Awards; Intimate Portrait; plus specials starring Cher, Doris Day, Garth Brooks, Mitzi Gaynor, Raquel Welch and Pam Tillis. Miller’s film credits include The Missiles of October, Sandcastles, A Guide for the Married Woman, Seizure: The Kathy Morris Story, The Man in the Santa Claus Suit, A Cry for Help: The Tracey Thurman Story, A Fine Romance and Lifestories. Miller has also served as co-executive producer of the last five Creative Arts Emmy Awards shows, and he produced the 2006, 2008 2010 and the current 2011 Television Academy Hall of Fame Induction Galas. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s drama school, Miller served as a Television Academy governor from 1995-1999 and 2004-2008, and is currently in his second year of a new term, treasurer from 1997 to 2001 and has served on the Television Academy Foundation Board. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America, as well as the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors.
